On 24 July 2025, the IBER-Kotosaka B2 (English-track) seminar closed out a joint engagement with Daimler Truck Financial Services (DTFSA) that had been running over several weeks as a multi-round format. The final day took place at DTFSA's headquarters, where student teams presented their refined proposals directly to the company's executives and spent the day in extended debate with them. Each round of the engagement had consisted of independent student work, a seminar-internal interim critique, and a further cycle of iteration, so the proposals that landed on the boardroom table at the end had already been through several waves of pushback. The executives' own feedback afterwards — that the work combined a distinctive student perspective with a real sense of the operating front line, to a degree that could materially inform the company's management — marked a fitting conclusion to the engagement.
2025年7月24日、IBER-琴坂研究会 B2（英語ゼミ）は、ダイムラートラックフィナンシャルサービス（DTFSA）との合同セッションの最終回を開催しました。この合同プロジェクトは、複数回のセッションを数週間にわたって重ねるかたちで進めてきたもので、その締めくくりが、同社本社に学生が伺い、磨き上げた提案を経営幹部の方々に直接ぶつけ、終日議論を重ねるという最終日でした。各ラウンドは、独自の検討、ゼミ内の中間発表での指摘、そして改善、というサイクルで構成されていたため、最終日に経営会議の場に載せられた提案は、すでに何度もの批判と改訂を経てきたものばかりです。終了後にいただいた「学生ならではの視点を含みながら、同時に現場感にあふれるものであり、同社の経営に実質的な示唆をもたらす水準であった」というご評価が、このセッションにふさわしい結びとなりました。
A multi-round format 複数ラウンド構成のセッション
B2 joint sessions are always two-way — student teams and executives meeting, presenting to each other, and debating the proposals on both sides — but the length and shape of the preparation cycle can vary. With DTFSA, we ran the engagement across multiple rounds over several weeks, rather than compressing it into a single encounter. Each round had its own preparation, its own seminar-internal interim critique, and its own iteration, so that by the time the final day arrived, the student proposals had been refined through several cycles of pushback rather than one. The tradeoff is time for depth, which matters on complex topics.
B2の合同セッションは、いつも双方向です。学生チームと経営幹部の方々が直接顔を合わせて互いの提案を議論する、というかたちは変わりません。ただ、準備サイクルの長さと組み立て方は、相手方や題材に応じて変わります。DTFSAとの今回のプロジェクトでは、準備を単発に圧縮するのではなく、数週間のあいだに複数回のラウンドを重ねて進めました。各ラウンドは、独自の事前検討、ゼミ内での中間発表、そして改善、というサイクルをそれぞれに持っており、その結果、最終日を迎えた時点で、学生の提案は一度ではなく何度もの批判を経て磨かれた状態になっていました。引き替えに時間はかかりますが、得られるのは議論の深さです。複雑なテーマでは、この深さこそが重要になります。

On the final day, teams presented recommendations on topics including the design of the new organisational structure and how to pursue creativity and productivity in parallel. Neither is a topic that a team could handle credibly with one week of reading; the multi-round setup was the precondition for the student work to carry weight. DTFSA's executives engaged with each proposal at length, pushing back where the argument was thinner than the students had recognised, and openly acknowledging the places where the student view was pulling the company's own thinking in a new direction. The exchange was genuine, which is what the format aims for.
最終日には、新しい組織構造の設計や、創造性と生産性を両立させる組織のあり方といったテーマで各チームが発表を行いました。いずれも、1週間程度の文献調査では手が届かない類のテーマです。複数ラウンド構成をとった最大の理由は、こうした難題に対して、学生の提案が重みを持って届くための前提をつくることにありました。DTFSAの経営幹部の方々は、一つひとつの提案にじっくりと時間をかけて向き合ってくださり、学生自身がまだ十分には認識しきれていなかった論の弱点を率直に指摘される一方で、学生の見立てが会社自身の思考を新しい方向へと引っ張っている箇所については、ためらいなくその場で言葉にしてくださいました。この双方向性は、演出ではなく、セッションが十分に機能したことを示すものだと考えています。
